More Than Studies

Although there is hardly any breathing time for the students under the Utkal University curriculum, the college organises its annual cultural festival in the 3rd week of January every year under the name of “TRIFEST”. Usually this festival has two components i.e. the day programme and the evening programme.

The day programme is by the students, of the students and for the students. A fully equipped and lighted stage is provided to the students with an enclosed auditorium to express their cultural/creative/artistic talents. For about three weeks, after the college hours, space is provided to students for rehearsals to put up individual or group shows. Wherever necessary, the college supports with trainers and equipments. During the day programms of TRIFEST, no outsider is invited or allowed for the show and it is a show for the students and the faculty members only where the students put up solo/group dances, vocal/instrumental music programmes, skits etc.

Fashion show by students has been a hallmark of Trident always in the past. This is staged in the evening just after the evening meeting with the Chief Guests and Chief Speakers. This is followed by an Orchestra programme by parties invited from outside.

The Trident Group has already employed and has signed contracts with individuals who have represented Orissa in lawn tennis and table tennis in the national level. Both of them are working as part time coaches to train young men and women on these two . These men will be in charge of training interested students in these two . Besides, there is a coach for Cricket & Volley who has been working since 2006-07.

Two lawn tennis courts (Hard court and Clay court) are coming up in the campus and will be operational in the coming winter with adequate floodlights for morning and evening . Two sets of international quality table tennis tables and equipments have been procured and are being installed. This facility will be eventually transferred to the proposed indoor stadium.

Annual competitions are held in Trident in Atheletics, Volley, Cricket, Badminton and indoor like chess and carrom. From the winter of 2011, competitions will also be held in swimming, lawn tennis, table tennis and golf subject to availability of participants..

Negotiation is under way to enable Trident students to be trained in the of Billiards and Snookers (In Club) and Swimming at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

An equipped Gymnasium (separate facilities of boys and girls) is being commissioned in the campus itself.

Students of BBA and BCA are known activists in the field of voluntary social work. In the past, they have come forward in large number to participate in blood donation camp held in the Trident campus.

From the coming session, there are plans to invite organisations like NSS and NCC for conducting their regular training programmes in the institutions located in the technoplex.

As a part of the curriculum, the Utkal University has encouraged the concept of workshops in improvement of language communications mostly in English. This has been quite inspiring for other course students as well. Although such workshops are not mandatory for other courses, it has been felt necessary that adequate help should be extended particularly to students who have their schooling in the Oriya medium.

In order to enable them to succeed with the recruiters and eventually to communicate effectively in their day-to-day office work, it is necessary that the students speak freely and confidently and put across their ideas in English language.

In view of the above, aided by the appropriate computer hardwares, other gadgets and the relevant softwares, Trident has started conducting leisure workshops for improvement of English communication which is a free-of-charge facility available to the interested students who usually become members of TCC (Trident Communication Club).

Usually the good management schools conduct group tasks, group discussions and problem solving workshops as teaching methods of management. These are the established techniques for developing the innate level of confidence in individuals.

Students who come to join BBA and BCA courses in Trident are from science, commerce and arts background. Although they are very alert in their thinking and analysis, usually they are inhibited in expression. It is therefore extremely necessary to develop the qualities of creativity, leadership, analytical thinking and presentation ability in these individuals.

In Personality Development (PD) sessions at Trident the following activities assume priority.

(1) Group task to a small group of 3(Three) with rotating presentation of conclusion.
(2) Extempore deliberation on short ideas.
(3) Group discussions (7 in a group) on contemporary topics.
(4) Teaching of basics of corporate manners, party etiquettes and Stress & Management.
